Revolut, one of the U.K.’s leading digital banks, is preparing to launch support for Bitcoin transactions through the Lightning Network, enabling faster and lower-cost BTC transfers for users in the United Kingdom and select countries in the European Economic Area (EEA).

The upcoming feature will use infrastructure provided by Lightspark, a crypto payments company led by former PayPal executive David Marcus.

By connecting to the Bitcoin Lightning Network—a layer-2 protocol designed for quicker and cheaper BTC transfers—Revolut aims to streamline crypto payments on its platform.

Lightspark describes its service as a gateway to the “Money Grid,” a decentralized system for global payments. The integration will allow Revolut users to send Bitcoin more efficiently by bypassing the delays and fees often associated with the main Bitcoin blockchain.

Revolut has not provided a public launch date for the feature, but Lightspark confirmed the development in a recent blog post. “Integrating with Lightspark is a natural step,” said Emil Urmanshin, Revolut’s crypto general manager. “We’re always looking to make financial services faster and more affordable.”

Revolut Embraces the Bitcoin Lightning Network

This integration places Revolut alongside other fintech firms that are adopting Bitcoin-native payment infrastructure. Strike, a payments company built around the Lightning Network, reported processing $6 billion in volume last year. These developments reflect growing interest in faster, blockchain-based systems for cross-border and real-time payments.

The Bitcoin Lightning Network allows users to send and receive small payments quickly and with minimal fees, making it a practical option for consumer-level transactions. By supporting this network, Revolut enhances its crypto product offering while aligning with broader trends in digital finance.

For now, the feature will be available only in select jurisdictions, with full details expected in the coming months. As more regulated fintech platforms adopt crypto-native tools, the Lightning Network continues to gain traction as a scalable solution for digital currency payments.
